Oral Cancer Foundation
For its 2006 annual charity drive, Heartland Dental Care made a commitment to help the Oral Cancer Foundation (OCF) increase the public’s awareness about oral cancer as well as help educate the public about the benefits and importance of oral cancer screening.
To fulfill this commitment, participating Heartland doctors and teams donated $10 of the proceeds from each ViziLite® oral cancer screening performed during the charity drive to the OCF. Doctors and team also had the option to raise funds for local charities.
Collectively, Heartland Dental Care practices raised $33,180 during the two-month time period. This included $31,530 raised to benefit the OCF, which was a direct result of Heartland doctors and teams, as well as partner practices, performing 3,148 ViziLite screenings. The top six practices performing the most ViziLite screenings included Westfield Dental Center in Westfield, Ind.; 21st Century-Charleston, in Charleston, Ill.; Effingham Dental Group, Effingham, Ill.; South Street Family Dental in Lafayette, Ind.; Creative Smiles, Champaign, Ill.; and Terre Haute Family Dental Care, Terre Haute, Ind.
According to Brian Hill, OCF founder and president, funds raised by Heartland during this year’s charity drive will be used to provide free oral cancer screenings in underserved areas of the country and to promote oral cancer awareness and early detection.
